Over the centuries, the Champ du Feu, once covered in forests, has been transformed into high moorland, like other peaks in the Vosges. Its name in patois, “cham do fé”, bears witness to this. Some see it as a reference to the ‘champ des fées’ (field of fairies), inspired by the mysterious lights sometimes seen in the surrounding peat bogs.

The roads are cleared by the CEA throughout the winter season. You can check the webcams on the website or on the CEA website to see the road conditions in real time. However, equipment is mandatory.

Since the implementation of the Mountain Law, in order to improve traffic flow on roads in mountainous regions and user safety, it is mandatory to equip your vehicle with winter tyres or to carry snow chains or snow socks from 1 November to 31 March each year.

There is no minimum age for children to access the slopes; this is the responsibility of the parents. Children must be accompanied. 

No, helmets are not compulsory, but they are strongly recommended. 

No, insurance is not compulsory, but it is strongly recommended that you take out a policy to ski in the ski area. You can purchase insurance when you order your ski pass.

Yes, you can bring your own ski equipment, but you must have a ski pass to access the downhill slopes. 

Access to the Nordic ski area is free of charge; there is no need to purchase a ski pass.

No, pets are not permitted in the hotel, but they are permitted in the apartments at the hotel residence and at Auberge Hazemann. 

The hotel has the Auberge Hazemann, open every lunchtime during the week, and a restaurant, La Table du Champé, open every evening during the week and on Sunday lunchtimes. It is advisable to book your table in advance.
